People's Tournament Replacement February 16-17, 2008 Due to a scheduling snafu at UC Berkeley, this tournament cannot be held at the traditional venue overlooking Sproul Plaza. Originally it looked like the tournament might be cancelled. Richard Koepcke looked into a couple of replacement venues in the Berkeley area, but found none suitable for a chess tournament in the winter months. Fortunately, South Bay organizer Salman Azhar has sprung into action to save the day. The People's Tournament Replacement will be held at Granada School in Santa Clara on February 16-17. Granada is the venue for the monthly Bay Area Chess series and can hold a fair number of players. The $2300 prize fund is based on 80 paid entries ($49 entry fee). Unfortunately, Dr. Azhar was unable to secure the site for Monday, so a 2-day format is necessary. Please plan to play and support slow time control adult chess in the Bay Area!
